I just purchased a '50 UTS with LP & the motor is tagged a UB 283B-4. What is the difference in the UT & UB engine?

not much difference, the UB's ran a bit higher compression heads.

That's exactly the difference. The later UT's had the 283A-4 with usually 4209 heads and the UB's had the 283B-4 with the 4210 heads. There's just less quench on the UB engines. There's more squeeze. Just like the saying for the 4 cycles of an engine, "Suck, Squeeze, Bang, Blow." :)
