Which Tractor Replaces What Tractor in the MM Line

Hi,

I was wondering what tractor replaces what tractor in the MM line, for example 5 Star replaces UB. I'm looking into expanding my small collection (actually large for a 18 yr old) in the future to possibly just one series of tractors. I've been thinking about either the constellation series or a different route like the MTA -> Red-Nosed U -> Bar Grille U -> UB -> 5 Star -> etc. Something of that order. Any recommendations would be great. I've already got a 44 ZTU painted that my grandpa gave to me last year, i've got a 53 UBU ready to paint, a 49 UTS ready to paint, and i've still got a 50 ZAU, 51 UTU, and two mid-fourties UTU's to make into one tractor. So i've got something to keep me busy in the mean time.

I was also wondering if any can recommend any literature or a book with a lot of information. It would be nice to have information about the implements but not necessary. I've already got the book "Minneapolis-Moline Farm Tractors" by Peterson and Beemer. What about Brian Rukes' book?

The M5 is between the 5-Star and the M602. I think Brain's book is the best refence guide to come out about Minnies so far and it's going to be hard to beat. Also, Trevor I am working on collecting all the constellation series and all to be wide fronts. I also have a series of 5-Stars as well all 58' models in the three fuel types offered and all with adjustable wide fronts in them.

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated! Looks like I have a lot of tractors to collect. At least i'm young though, that gives me some time.

I think I will have to get Brian's book. He seems like a very knowledgable guy, and I think it is worth giving him some credit for all of the work and time he put into it.

Looks like your a lucky guy, and you've got your collecting planned pretty good. What tractors were all part of the constellation series?

They are the 335,445,4-Star's,5-Star,jetstar, jetstarII,Big Mo's 400,500, & 600 2 Star crawler, "which I am not worried about getting" and some people lump in the Jetstar III into it as well. I don't because of the totally diferent look of it compared to the rounded sheet metal of the others. I think it belongs in the "M" series tractors.

Are there many Big Mo's around? I have never seen one, besides in the book. Seems as if 335's are kind of rare too.

Yes, There is some around I just got mine a couple of weeks ago out of Texas. It's a Big Mo 400 military . There are a few around though.

In answer to your original question, next to replace the 5 Star was the M602, followed by the M670, M670 Super, G750, and finally on to the White Field Boss series.

I think the M5 came between the 5 Star and M602.

Thanks for the offer but I am not in the position right now. I'll keep that in mind though.

It might be awhile until I buy my next tractor.

Trevor: I have a GTB gas apart in my shop right now that needs rings and bearings. I think it's a 1949 or 1950. I'd have to check the serial number. Just haven't got it together yet. $1000 as is and you can see what it looks like inside. If I put it together, the price goes up. Located in Northeast Iowa. Came out of Canada.

brian rukes's book in my opinion is highly recommended. I like the bigger tractors like the "G" series. GTA, GTB/GTC, GB, GIV, G704, G705/706, G707/G708, G1000 ETC.

Not sure how many cane models, but they did have the UTC. I saw one once, and it would make a good collector model because of unusual appearance.
