Purchased a nice running '47(?) UTU this week. While I have long experience on older Farmall and Oliver tractors, this is my first time working on an MM. Looking to the experts here for some guidance.

First, I'm need instruction on operating the charging system. The tractor is equipped with what appears to be a stock 6 volt generator w/generator-mounted cutout. With the motor running at governed RPM and light switch off (pushed in), the ammeter indicates a slight charge (2 - 3 amps). Pulling the switch to the middle or full out position illuminates the gage panel lamp, and the ammeter then indicates a steady 15 amps or so charge. (Incidentally the other lights remain dark in all switch positions - suspect an unrelated fuse or bulb failure issue here). If anyone can provide a operating instructions - or better yet a UTU wiring diagram - it would be much appreciated!

Other questions: Looking for a Fram, Baldwin, NAPA, etc. part number for a replacement oil filter element. Also a part number for a thermostat to fit this tractor. Finally recommendation on a good source for repro operators and parts manuals, if these are available.

Thanks in advance for your help!!

For a few photos of my UTU, punch below

Hi Bob,

You can get original operators manuals & parts catalogs for Floyd County Museum in Charles City, Ia. Phone # is 641-228-1099. Ask for Maryann Townsend. They were cheaper than repros. Bought my UB manuals here. Bought shop and accessory manuals through E-Bay. E-mail if you need any additional info.

That looks great! Makes my UTS look rather pathetic.

Thanks for the info guys! Jerry - that hub you see in one of the photos is of a DOA Farmall M that was part of the deal on the UTU. Here's a shot of the M after we pushed it (the UTU doing the pushing) onto the trailer.

I bought a NAPA oil filter. The number I beleive is 1111. Easy to remember. NAPA has a thermostat for the UTU but you have to drill a bypass hole in it or it will boil. I put a bypass line going from the thermostat housing down to the lower radiator drain plug on mine. Works great. By the way mine is a '47 UTU also. Fun old tractor.

LOL,
Brian

Nice looking tractor. How about the Moline that we can just see the hub of ? It's normal to charge higher with the lights on. Jerry
