We are restoring my family's 1950 UTU bought new by my dad. It has not run in 20 years at least and has been outside. Started tearing into it and couldn't beleive it actually turns with the crank.I remember him telling us that it was bored and had aluminum pistons put in. It always rattled a little when first started until the pistons expanded I suppose. Does anyone know if these could be M&W or what was available back in the late 50's or so. Where can I get rings for these since they are worn some. Another thing, they have three rings near the top and then another oil ring about 1" up from the bottom. One piston is different and has four near top and the lower oil ring too.??? This tractor always ran fast and hard with way more power than anyone I ever saw in the field. They were good at turning up the governer so I'm sure it ran 2 to 300 RPM's faster than it was supposed to. Thanks!

M & W had standard overbore pistons I had them in my old U. Contact matt at motec, he usually has some or knows where there at. I was able to replace my rings with Hasting which I ordered at Napa. They had exactly what I needed. Everything fit like a glove. The problem finding many of these parts is getting beyond the moron behind the counter to an employee who will really get the books out and help you. Welters in Missouri might also have available M & W pistons. Good luck

Hoped someone else could have helped on this. What I know is that Hastings has-or did have an online catalog listing all their piston rings. measure your bore, and the width of the rings (compression and oil) Sometimes you need to know the depth of the ring groove too.) and check their catalog. You'll probably have to get a local supplier to order them. There's a list of suppliers on that website, too.

One thing: you said you had one odd piston with different rings. I once bought a set of rings for one piston for a regular std. bore U because I broke the oil ring in the 4 cyl set I had bought.

That was for the 5 ring set. His email address is [email protected] his name is Don. If I can help with any thing else drop me a line.
