We just aquired an old 6 cyl minne power unit to run on irrigation this coming summer and we are in the process of tuneing it up. Does any body know what the timing is on these old engines with a magneto? Thanks in advance

mags and molines are simple, really! top dead center #1 cylinder. take mag off and be sure slot is horizontal, rotate mag to fire on #1, install mag. may have to fine tune on application to get most power but just simply loosen mag and rotate so engine smoothes out. 283-800's all the same. secret is the drive shaft coupling being horizontal.

To get the info you need, you'll have to give us a hint as to what power unit you have, that info can be found on a 3x5" plate attached to the engine in most cases. There are many engine sizes and different fuels and variations. You've told us it has a mag, but that's only part of the info. If there is no tag, the casting #s on the crankcase, heads, blocks, and 'stuff' can help identify it. John
