Wondering what engine would be in my 1950 ZAN. It has 3 5/8 bore and 5 stroke. The model number is 206B 4. It has the block that is split between the cylinder walls and a single flat head. Still new to MM. Thanks for the help in advance.

Chris,
Well you've pretty muched described what you've got - 206 cubic inch. The R and ZT series tractors used engines of similar design but different cubic inch (165 & 186 respectively). The ZB was the last tractor to use this style engine in the Moline line. The valves are horizontal and long rocker arms run up the left side of the engine directly from the cam lobes to the valve tips. If you removed the cylinder head on the right side of the engine you'd be looking at the heads of the valves. The cylinder head forms half of the combustion chamber and could be switched to raise or lower compression based on fuel type.

If you have some specific questions you're wondering about please post them and the members of this board should be able to answer them. Welcome to the wonderful world of Moline.

Brian

Do you know who made the engines for Moline? I was thinking it was maybe a Hercules, but I'm not sure. The operators manual probably has it but I am missing the first 5 pages. Also how can you tell if you have a high compression engine or a low compression engine, and how much do the two vary in horse power rating? Thanks alot for the help sofar!

MM made their own engines, the compression was changed by changing the head. They were a flathead design with the valves lying across the top of the cyl. I have alot more info, but don't know the direction you are going. John
