This summer I rebuilt a gas GB and posted a question regarding breaking it in after rebuilding it. I got some replies and one of them mentioned torque values for the head being different than what is shown in the owners manual for the GB. One thing I did not ask is what people use to torque the manifold side bolts on the heads as the water jacket running above the head precludes using my regular socket and torque wrench. I have seen in MM manual and IT manuals a wrench that looks like a C allowing the torque wrench to be above the coolant line. Has anyone made such a thing or found other ways to torque under the coolant line? Thanks for any information, Bruce.

Thanks for the information. I tightened mine with a combination wrench also but don't want to have gasket problems and if I can chase down a tool from one of the vendors even better. Thanks again, Bruce.

Snap On has a Torque Adaptor specifically for head bolts on John Deere, Case, and Minneapolis Moline tractors. It's part number B4203 and it retails for $48.45

Thanks Bill - I knew there had to be something available for such a critical application. I can count on the MM community for answers. Thanks again, Bruce.

We torque the ones under the water pipe by feel with a wrench and the rest with a torque wrench. thats just how we do it, and we never have any problems with them. the U we put together last year holds 230psi and it's never leaked yet.

MAC tool makes a "C" shaped 15/16" adapter for a torque wrench. I think Proto also makes them.
