I need two things of info. 1 what is the best way to get the side slop out of the shifter on a 49 U.2Can some body send me or post a picture of the lever to run the hydrlics mine is missing.

Mark, I think your problem is the pin that fits horizontal to the shift lever just below the boot. There should be a snap ring under the shift boot.Remove this to take the shift lever out the top. There is a groove machined in the pivot ball of the shifter that matches up with the pin I mentioned. You need to tap the pin out and turn it a 1/4 turn as it is probably worn flat. I have done this on 3 tractors and it worked great.

Mark, The only way to fix the shifter would be to take the top plate off of the transmission and examine the ball on the end of the shifter and the slots in the shifter rails. Repairs would then have to be made as necessary i.e. wled and grind. I have a U that I have parted out. If you are interested I would sell the hydraulic controls off of it.
