I have somewhat restored a 1943 RTU. The ID plate read RTU 409183 but it has one front tire. Brian Rukes registry does not show a RTN made in 1943 and I beleive it to be correct. I'm leaving it that way. What is the differance between a 1939 RT and the 1940 RTU? Thanks for any responces.

Yes, there were no RTN's made in 1943, only 432 RTU's and 100 RTI's. It's not that hard to switch front pedestals on these tractors. I've seen RTU's with standard front ends, RTU's with RTN fronts and vice versa. ANYTHING could have happened to your tractor in 60 years.

There would be no difference except the stamping on the i.d. plate on a 1939 RT and an earlier 1940 RTU, with the "square" tank. 1940 serial numbers range from 402201 - 405575 and the change in tanks came at #404801, thus most 1940's were square tanks. Hope this helps.

in some cases there is no difference between a 39 and a 40, MM made some flat side tank R's in 1940 but very few, the main difference between a 39 and a 40 would be that the 40 should have a 2 piece gas tank that is more rounded and streamlined than the 39, I also believe that they started using distributors instead of a magneto. with your 43 someone probably put a RTN front end on it somewhere along the line but I could be wrong.
