I know there are 3 different casting numbers on these cams. 451A, 451B, & 451E. What are their diffences?

You are correct on the casting numbers. The A,B, and E are all correct for a R model there is no mechanical difference in them, they will all interchange. The E is a very rare to find, I believe it might have not been used in tractors, possibly industrial use. They are all very bad about wearing the tops off of the lobes because of the follower setup. I weld them back with a hardface rod or sprayweld with a hardface material and then regring the entire cam to original specs. If you need one e-mail me.

I agree that there are 3 numbers for the camshafts, but they are 451, 451A, and 451B. If there was an E there would have to have been a C and a D. The 451 was used on the early Zekes and did not have the cam lobes for the hydraulic pump that came optional on the new R in 1939. The 451A had the lobes necessary to operate the goofy little hydraulic pump that mounted on the engine side cover and pumped engine oil for operating cultivator cylinders. I went out to the shop and laid a 451A and a 451B side by side and can not tell any difference. There may have been a slight change in the cam profile, or material or ???? Both my 1956 and 1966 price sheets show only the 451B as being available. Hope this helps.
