Hello,

I'm restoring my first tractor (MM Jet Star) and the oil bath is full of spider webs, dirt and who knows what else.

1.Does anyone recommend a good cleaning solvent to soak that unit it? 2.is there a cap that goes on top of the oil bath assembly? This one didn't have a lid.

Also, I need to get a radiator cap. Will 4LBS. be ok.?

(I have ordered a parts book, it just hasn't made it yet.)

A jetstar has no 'bonnet' on the air cleaner. it takes in its air through the grille at the top of the hood. See the slots with the mesh? There should be a hose on the top of the cleaner that presses against the hole in the hood when closed.

Some air cleaners were spotwelded together. If yours snaps together, probably be best to take it all apart. Otherwise, your best bet would probably be to soak it in a 5 gal bucket with 3-4 gallons of minieral spirits in it. 3-4 days min, longer would be better. Take the hose off first. slosh it once in a while.

I would drill the spot welds and clean the filter mesh out of the filter. Have had to do this before if it is totaly pluged and choking the engine.
