I really think you could undertake this project yourself. Have you ever done any welding? All that you need is a 220 Stick welder, some Nickel rod for welding on cast, and some patience. I've welded 4 heads now and 3 blocks, each one has not leaked plus I've saved myself lots of money. The secret is keeping the metal cool and having an air chisel there to take the stress out of the metal as it cools. But, if you weld about 1" of the crack at a time, I really think you could do the job yourself and save a ton of cash. Good luck in whatever you decide, I'd love to be of assistance if I could help!

Thanks! I do have the arc welder but not the right type of rod. I think the crack is on the combustion chamber side, but not on the combustion chamber side.

If you want to know exactly how to do it, go to google and type in cast iron welding and the first or second listing willl give a detailed explanation of proper cast iron weld repair. I grew up with cast iron putting food on the table. seen the weld done a lot. Prentice

Yes, it is done all the time. To be done right requires more skill and equipment than most people have. Take it to a machine shop that doe's engine work, or one that rebuilds heads for trucks and equipment, if they don't weld heads they can tell you who welds the heads for them.

About a year ago I saw an add for a company In MN that does head welding. Give them a try since it looks like you are from MN.

There is a company in Nevada, Iowa {east of Ames 10 miles} that does a good job welding heads. I've had several done there and they do excellent work. Williams Cylinder Head Repair, I think is the name. I heard they changed the name and I think that is the new name.
