Just curious to know how expensive tractor restoration is? How much have most of you spent on a complete resto job? Thank you.

Here's a little rule to follow. Unless you really need or want the tractor that has rotten rear rubber (that you are looking at), don't buy it. Decent rear back rubber is hard to find and you don't even wanna know how much new stuff is. Especially if it is big stuff like a 11X38 or something like that. Just my 2 cents ...

Thanks for all of your 2 cents. I am getting out of the Army and will be home very soon to take care of some clean up projects for my grandmother. I'm into 4x4s so I know how expensive that can be and just how frustrating it can be to find the perfect part out of a junkyard etc. More than likely the tractor will be sold. Once I get home I will be able to ID it based on some info that I got from some kind people on this board and then post the results. Thanks again for your input.

Pat,

What's your 4x4ing Rig?

as far as tractor restoration goes, its way to exspensive especialy when you don't have any money to start with. lol.

In my case im trying to restore a Farmall A, Its at a stand still, I haven't spent a dime on it and its sitting torn apart all over the shop. Im to busy thinkin about an old 1950,s 4x4 dodge power wagon down the road. Put some mudders on it and would look like an awsome old 4x4in rig.

Wonder if I can get that one for free To, :-)

I have 2 4x4s now. May main pride and joy is a 77 GMC Jimmy. I just rebuilt the dana 44 i traded for. I have also rebuilt or replaced the following: drivers side floor pan, rocker panel and cab support, body mounts, almost all of the brakes, ujoints (8 times), the tranny (TH350), gutted the interior, rebuilt the top end of the engine with new head gaskets (original job was to replace valve stem seals) Edelbrock performer that i scored from a junkyard, Edelbrock 600 carb, K&N filter, 4" lift, 33" all terrains. that's about it. I taught myself to weld so I had to buy a welder from a pawnshop too.
I also have an 84 Cherokee that I picked up for $400 and have about $1200 total in. When I get home I will also acquire my grandfather's 1980 Ford F250 4x4, 4 speed, 351, and only 32,752.7 miles as the odometer read the last time I was home. Power Wagons are cool. They have one on display here at Fort Bragg. Just going through some old 4x4 mags and read over a few Power wagon articles.

Pat, I guess its like any hobby, how much do you want to spend? I bought a farmallH in good running condition for $1100 canadian. I spent about $200 on paint and related supplies,$80 for changing all lube and filters, transand about $100 for a few little parts. I spent a lot of time preping the tractor for painting but in all I have a real nice tractor for $1600. I see Massey 22's for $1500 range, a Massey Mustang in good condition for $1500. When you start looking around you can find tractors in reasonable condition cheap, however, if you need to rebuild a motor and trans, buy tires etc you can sink $1000's into your project.Find out what a restored tractor sells for and work back from there. When buying make sure manifold, rims, are in good shape and the tractor is complete. There are more expert people than I out there to hear from. It is fun and you dont need to spend a fortune.
