Bought a Massey 44d recently with a an American Bosch PSB pump. Supposedly the previous owner replaced a fuel line just before I got it and then could not get it started. I bleed all lines and checked that I have fuel pumping on the return side when I turn it over, but am getting nothing at the injectors. I know next to nothing about this setup and would appreciate any comments/help.

With hand pumped fuel at the injector pump return line, stop lever in run position, full throttle and all fuel line nuts loosened at the injector end - you should have fuel after some cranking. Otherwise you might have a problem with the high pressure section of your fuel pump.

Thanks: your mention of the stop lever got me thinking. The American Bosch PSB pump has the stop valve built into it: pushing the throttle all the way forward shuts the fuel off. The throttle linkage connects to the PSB via a shaft & collar. Could this be the problem maybe ? It sure acts as though the fuel is shut off. Also, I can operate the hand primer forever and never feel any resistance. Shouldn't some pressure build up after priming by hand for ten minutes ? Is there any place to get any documentation on these pumps ?

Yes, you should definitely feel resistance. Is the fuel running freely when you loosen the bleeder bolt on the prefilter?
If not, you might have a sediment block in the strainer/valve assy in the tank. If you have access to comp. air, try a backblow thru the line between the strainer and the hand priming pump, that usually does it. If you still do not have any backpressure when priming, you might have rust in the valves in the primer pump.

Now mine is a Coventry built '35, so it has the Lucas/CAV diesel gear, and that is totally different from yours, but the main principles ought to be the same.: Tank with strainer/ shutoff valve, line to prepump with primer handle, line to prefilter, on to fine filter, from there to low pressure feed pump inside injector pump. from there all is "don't touch" except for the fitting nuts on the high pressure lines to the injectors. Normally you have bleed valve bolts on prefilter, fine filter and low pressure section.
The '35 is known to clog the strainer/ shutoff valve assy and rust the springs in the pre/hand pump when exposed to whatever little water that might get into the system.
Pls. keep me posted on your progress.
