135 crank pulley

I guess I'm going to try to make an adaptor to bolt on to the crankshaft pulley to turn a shaft that will power a hydraulic pump mounted out front of my 135 to run a wood splitter. When facing the front of the tractor the engine turns clockwise so probably the bolt securing the pulley is a left hand thread. ??? Also with the tractor in gear the engine spins over when I tried to loosen the bolt. Why is this and how do I hold the engine from turning? Is this pulley hard to remove?
Thanks,
Dennis

Are your tires loaded?

Quite often loaded tires will rock the tractor a bit if you stop quickly then take the brakes off.

Hello Dennis,
No, the crank bolt is RH thread. In 33 years of MF's I have never had any problems removing a pulley. The key makes it a neat fit but that's it.
I assume that you have a straight axle 135 with a hollow axle pivot pin. It should not be difficult to have an adaptor made to fit the crank thread but I would advise that a flexible coupling is fitted to cope with any mis-alignment no matter how accurate your working is.
As to removing the bolt, it is not normally necessary to hlod the crank. A good fitting spanner or socket and bar are OK and give it a good crack with a heavy hammer at the end normally does the trick.
Cheers

Thanks Dave. With the tractor in gear, why does the engine turn free counter clockwise but not clockwise? Also when I stop and have the main gear shift in nutral with the tractor running it rocks back and forth a little for a short time - ????

Multipower will let the engine turn one way and not the other. It has a ratchet in the drive. That also prevents pull starting the tractor.
