First things first, I would drain a small sample of oil from the differential housing, then some from both the final drive housings. Check for any metal flecs or worse still, larger pieces of metal. This may indicate where to start looking. I have heard these centre drive models make crazy noises from the driveshaft in 2WD, when the centre carrier bearing has failed, or the sliding couplers on either end have excessive amounts of wear in them, because in 2WD there will be no load on the shaft, allowing it to "Back-slap" while turning. Check out the oil first though, for piece of mind, cheers, Evan.
