AD152 in an MF 40 industrial. Fuel tank cleaned and painted 5 hours back. Ran ok for a couple of hours, then minor surging started, got worse.

Today it started really surging, then died.

Fuel clean, fresh. Filter, sediment bowl and internals of the injector pump (visible through the small inspection plate on the side) clean, no crud anywhere.

Full fuel delivery to the injector pump when opening the two bleed screws and operating the toggle on the fuel lift pump.

Loosened fittings at the injectors, no delivery from the high pressure lines when cranking.

No tinkering with the injector pump, other than opening the side cover, and loosening/tightening the bleed screws after the stallout.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Jack

My old buddy Jack, long time no see!! Try disconnectin the linkage (stop) from the injection pump, and then move the lever by hand you should be able to feel a slight resistance. If you dont feel the resistance, the lever inside of the pump may have come aloose or the metering valve may have stuck.

Hello Jack,
Well done! You have just about covered everything that anyone on this site could suggest. If you have a solid flow of fuel from the pump vent screws, at least you have fuel getting to the pump. Have you actually disconnected the injector pipes from the injectors and checked for any flow at all? Make sure that the lever on the stop shaft on the pump is firmly connected.
If the above is OK it does not look good. Occasionally we have had to tow a tractor to start it because we were not getting enough cranking speed with two batteries. I do not think that will help here.
Nothing short of removal and repair in your local diesel shop.

Thanks, David.

Got my first 35 in 1975, rebuilt a dozen since. Some twice. Made most of the mistakes, learned a few things.

Those Masseys and Perkins are absolutely marvelous machines.

But this one has me stumped, and your concluding remark was my thought as well.

But.... There are often nuggets tossed out in this group that - even after a third of a century's experiences - make me say "holy cow - I didn't think of that!"

So I was hoping!!!

Jack
