Changing rear axle seal on a massey pony

I'm looking at the service instruction manual and removing the expansion cap, axle nut and washer are straight forward but the next step is removing the bearing cone. My question is the
cone pressed on the shaft or is it a slip fit?
The manual then says to press the axle shaft out of the housing, but what tool would one use to do this.
If any one has changed one of these axle seals could you explain to me what steps you took.

Thanks

I just completed rebuilding the entire axle units on my pacer. This tractor is very close to the pony. I suggest you unbolt the axle unit from the transmission and flip it upside down to work on it.I did one side at a time. Remove the gear cover and you should be able to use a long screwdriver between the gear spokes to knock out the cone. You will then need a large push-puller tool to push the shaft thru the gear and out of the housing.
You may want to replace the other seals.

So the bearings are slip fit on the axle not pressed on?

When you bolt the gear cover back on does it requrie a gasket between the cover and the housing?

Where are the drain plugs for the final drive and transmission located. I see a plug for the final drive but it appears too high up to drain the fluid.

Thanks for your advise

The first smaller bearing is slip fit. The larger outer bearing is pressed on. I did not have a large enough puller to get it off. Had a machine shop pull it. I used my hydraulic press to put it back on. Take the gear cover off while it is under the tractor as it will have oil in it. That is how you drain it. You will probably need to make a new gasket if the old one is in bad shape. There is a drain plug for the transmission on the underside of the transmission. Hope this helps.
