my cockshutt did the same thing but it was a brand new defective gasket between the intake and carb... i replaced that and it was all better. i checked to see if it was leaking anywhwere by spraying carb cleaner around the intake where it connects to the block and then where the carb and intake meet. not sure if itll help but thats what i got from my experiences with mine.

When it dies after a half hour, quickly check the spark by pulling the centerwire out of the distributor cap, holding it about 1/4" from a good ground and trying a start. If you have anything less than a FAT, BLUISH-WHITE SPARK, there is something wrong with your ignition system. Check the point setting, look for mis set, burned, or corroded points, bad keyswitch. Check the coil by touching it. It might be warm but shouldn"t be hot. If it"s hot, you may not have the correct coil so it"s overheating o you. the primary circuit on a 12v ignition system should carry no more than ~4 amps of current so the circuit resisitance should be ~3 ohms.(~1.5 ohms for a 6V). If you have a 6v coil in a 12V system you can overheat it without a reistor in the circuit to limit the current to about 4 amps. if this is the case, you need to put in the correct resisitor or put in a real 12V coil( NAPA IC-14SB ~$15).

If you have the requisite FAT, BLUISH-WHITE SPARK, then suspect the fuel system. A clogged tank vent or vent cap, fuel supply restriction, etc.

Hope this helps.

Does it run good for the first 15-20 minutes? Will it start and run again after it sits a few minutes?
If so, I would suspect that the fuel tank vent is clogged.
If it runs bad from the start, I would suspect a dirty jet in the carb, stuck float, dirty needle valve or other carb problem.
