You have a very interesting web site on these tractors, I am having problems with the hydraulic three point lift. Within the last 20 hours of use, the implements have began jumping up and down when carrying also using high rpm's to clear the ground with implement.. I have done most of my own repairs but on this one I'll need direction. I not trying to tell you what is wrong but merely the things I have tried so far. Checked the fluid ( hyd.,trans., and final drive seem to use the same reservoir) Tractor acts like it's starving for fluid?
With or without implement the lift arms jump.
To lift implement off ground RPM's must be above 1500.
Pressure gauge test: gauge jumps from 1500psi to 1800psi at 2000rpm's with both levers in transport position.

Thank You for any advise. Jewel Watts

Adding to David's thorough info, just a couple of things to check. As David explained, drain the transmission oil down by 8 litres,(2 gallons), or so, remove the right hand side (round)cover from the rear housing, (by your right ankle), and take a look inside either with a mirror, or with your eye, if your nimble enough, and check for a leak coming from the ram bolted to the under-side of the lift, (or hitch) cover, , while engine is running, and lift is in raised position. If oil is leaking from the ram, this would be one oil leak to rectify. Now, as David suggested, check for excessive oil emenitating from the pressure control unit and diaphram, (bolted to the plate hanging down from the lift cover), or the relief valve mounted in the back of the hydraulic pump. Either leak should be quite evident as a hissing or squirting of oil from either valve. By the sounds of your description, it should be an easy leak to find, as it is leaking quite a fair amount of oil rapidly. If no oil leak is evident from the ram or P.C. valve or relief valve, you will have a leak in one of the exhaust valves in the hydraulic pump. This will require removal of the lift cover and/or splitting of the tractor at the gearbox/ centre housing, (depending if your tractor has auxillary hydraulics). If the pressure control valve is the problem, don't bother repairing the valve, as parts are expensive for this unit, simply remove it completely, fit a standard straight type stand-pipe, (with-out the elbow pipe to the P.C. unit), and fit a new 2850 P.S.I. relief valve into the back of the hydraulic pump, (or blank off the pressure port to the P.C. valve in the lift cover). let me know what you find. Hope this makes some sense, regards, Evan.

Hello,
A couple of possibilities; It is possible that the filter on the pump is partially/or worse, blocked. Oil is slow entering the system combined with a leak possibly from the piston/piston housing.
If the jumping is rapid it could be a leak. You select your position. The system responds to move the 3-pt to that position. You loose oil, the 3-pt falls and triggers the system to raise it again.
What I think is most likely is that a fault has occurred in the Pressure Control system and/or diaphragm. I'm assuming that you have this on your 165. Drain the oil level to the bottom bolt on the RH side cover. If the fault is here you will see the vertical lever which comes from above oscillating as the pressure rises and falls.
To rectify this you will need a simple but easily made device for the PC adjustment. To carry out initial adjustment it will be necessary to remove the cover. A shop manual is essential.
Start off by removing the filter through the LH cover and checking it.
