The owner's manual for my 1965 3165 says that during maintenance, the power steering fluid filter should be changed, so I went to Napa and ordered a part # 1430 power steering fluid filter, but when I removed the resevoir on my tractor, which appears to be all original, there is no filter and the one that I bought will not fit in there. What is the deal? Is there another filter available? The Napa book says the 1430 is the only one for that tractor.

A later pump I found has what would look like a
tin, small diameter cover. It is what they call a
strainer only. When the reservoir is removed it
would be on the lower side of the pump casting.
On the upper side would be the relief valve, and
an elbow (intake I suppose) This one should not
have to be replaced, cleaned?? Chuck

Dax, Do you have a diesel or gas? The NAPA p/n is
for a diesel. The problem is that if the original
P.S. pump has been replaced it could be different
I have never seen any Massey pump w/o a filter.
Poss it was removed and never put back. Do you have the p/n of the P.S. pump (the no. ending with M91 or M92 etc?)Chuck

I have a diesel. I am guessing that it must me a replacement. I can not find a number on it and across the resevoir says "PARKER HANNIFIN." There is simply no way that the Napa filter that I bought will go in there. It doesn't look like it was intended to use one. There are no alterations to the tractor, the pump is bolted right on and the lines fit nicely, but it must be a replacement. Also when I refilled it, it would not take 1 3/4 quarts of fluid, only 1 quart. Thanks for your help.
