I have a massey 50 diesel that needs a PS pump seal, the oil is getting into the engine.I removed the pump and ordered the seal.I am wondering if you can replace the seal by removing the little gear,or do the pump gears have to come apart on the other end to get to the seal.It has the late style smaller pump like on a 135. Thanks.

Not real familiar with the M.F.50, but, once you remove thr gear, it should be obvious if the seal removes from the front of the end-plate, or the other side. For memory, if it can be removed from the front, there will be a circlip visible once the gear is removed. Remove this circlip and carefully prise the seal out. Now check the condition of the seal. If it as hard as a biscuit, you have probably found your problem. If the seal is still soft and supple, replacing it may not cure the original leak. The problem may be wear in the pump bushings. Grab the drive-end of the shaft, and move it in a radial motion. If it has any amount of movement in it, this would indicate the bushes are sad, and, need rectifing. Replacing the seal will not fix the oil leak problem. Not sure if bushings are available as a service part, but, in any case, the alloy pump body will be scored anyway, if there is excess movement, and will require a complete pump replacement. hope all this makes sense, regards, Evan.
