Thank you for your help - most enlightening. You are correct - my tractor is Perkins diesel 203 engine. It is dual clutch, multipower. Would also be interested in the UK designations and serial number ranges by year if somebody can find them.
Regards

All Massey-Harris equipment built in the United Kingdom plants had the model numbers prefixed with a 7, I am looking at a 1954 M-H advert now which lists the 744 Tractor, (U.S. got the 44) 726 Combine etc. Early Massey-Ferguson was no exeption and you have a 1964 Massey-Ferguson 65 Mk2 (very last year of production) that was built in the M.F. plant at Banner Lane, Coventry England, the same plant that had built the Ferguson T-E range of tractors. The letters SNDY & W indicate build options like dual or single clutch, Multipower or 6 speed gearbox etc but I don't know what letter indicates which options. I think the serial number guide on this site lists U.S. production which is different to U.K. production, so will be inaccurate for your tractor. If it is Diesel like mine, it will have a Perkins A4.203 engine developing 58 flywheel horsepower, the Mk1 had a Perkins 4.192 developing 50 hp. Hope this helps, and hopefully somebody on the board will come on with what those prefix letters indicate.
