I recently got a Ferguson TE20. The serial number is TED136177. The tractor was standing unused for the last 15 years. The last owner told me, that before he used the tractor for the last time he always had the problem, that the engine stopped running after it was hot.
He did not want to fix it anymore. Can anyone tell me the possible reason for this?
Its a kerosene engine and as I do not have a repair manual, I would like to know the valve clearences, and the bolt tightening torque
of the cylinder head.
How much and which engine oil should I use?
Some of the electric parts are missing either. Was the original electric system a 6 or 12 Volt system?
Thanks for all informations.

PS The reason of course why the engine stopped running, and not why the owner did not want to fix it, sorry!

Hi Guy,

Do you have a timing light, that you hook up on spark plug wire number 1 ?

You see, if you have you can put it on and see if the fire is missing when it gets hot. Of course you can check it when the engine has stopped too.

I suspect a damaged coil or condenser..... but can be a lot of other things.

Torque and valve clearance will come a bit later.

My TED 20 is TED 113020. 12 Volt system came at 200001 so you have the 6 volt if original. Your TED 20 is a 1950 model.

Got some parts from England right now. Most is ignition / electrical parts.

Well, got to go for now.

Bill
