An elderly neighbor died, and the family is selling an early model 20 or 30. I cannot make out the serial or model number on the tag, but notice some parts that are numbered TO-3009, or TO-40. I was raised on a 20, and they seem very like, but I was wondering if there is a visual way to tell the difference, without a tag number. Tractor has a great lift, and runs like a top, with tight steering. Does have a few cosmetic issues, but has been well cared for. 1500.00 is the price. Thanks for any tips...Tab

The first way t ID the tractor is to get the serial number found on a plate above the steerring wheel on the dashboard. It will look lihe TO-abcdef. If its The engine for a TO-20 is the Continental Z120 and the TO-30 is powered by a Continental Z129. There is an engine data plate on the left side of the block at the parting joint of the block and head about midway aft on the block. It will have the engine serial number on and will look like Z129.abcdeefg or Z120.hijklmn. Looking on the left side of the block, if there is an external oil filter, it"s a TO-30. ALso the TO-30 has the air intake screen on the right hand side of the dashboard. The TO-20 is under the hood.

Hope this helps you.

For that price, I would definitely buy it. Take some pictures when you get it home and the guys on here can probably identify it.

Thanks for the info. As I mentioned before, the tags are not readable. But the air filter assembly is under the hood, and I didn't notice the oil filter as mentioned above. It must be a 20. I would love to have this tractor. I grew up on a 20 and 35. I still have the 35. I have tied too much money up in a Farmall 140 and a Farmall Cub. If not for that, I'd buy it. It runs great with no smoke. Thanks.
