I did a bunch of tractor and forklift brake work this past winter. I was able to get all of the cups that I needed at auto parts stores (eg.: NAPA, Car Quest, etc.) Many of those places have selector boxes full of every size brake cylinder cup that you can imagine. All of the ones that I bought were $2 or $3.

I discovered that in most cases, in the wheel cylinders and in the masters, the problem with the brakes was dirt and corrosion in the bores and (mostly) on the aluminum pistons. I was able to clean them, give the bore a quick honing, replace the cups and they were almost like new.

If it wasn't for having to replace all of the brake lines that twisted off it would have been a fairly quick and easy job. Even with the cost of buying brake line tubing and flare nuts and couplings of all sizes included I was way under the cost of buying one master cylinder from a dealer (eg.: CaseIH wants $300 for a master for a 2870!).

Have fun bleeding out all the air,

JP.

I bought the parts to rebuild brake cylinders on my MF-690 at local MF dealer a couple of years back. Tom

thanks for the replies, I had to replace the slaves, corrosion was too bad for honing to clean them up. I'm hoping that the master cylinders can be re-used. mw
