MF 2805, 24 speed, duals, cold AC

What to go over with a fine tooth comb? What pitfalls to beware of when inspecting? that "should" make a fella walk away from it. I want it, BUT just because it looks like a total stud of a tractor, I should make a business decision on it, rather than a, "gotta have it" decision, ha ha.

Good 2805s are the exception rather than the rule. The later one's were better the the early ones. Last ones were built in 1982, first ones were built in 1977. the first two years were 2800s but were supposed to have been updated, and then called 2805s..

After having split my 2745 this year to replace the rear main seal, it was really an easy job. I don't know why so many people are so afraid of having to repair a 24 speed. JD, Case IH etc. all have to have their powershifts repaired sooner or later too!

I'd be one to look and be the happy new owner. As you can read in the archives, the one I drive around has been great and flawless. Some have emailed off list and said this one is an exception, but the 2745 has been good to us as well. Both with the 24 speed. Buying a 2000 series or any other should earn a good looking at. Personally I love the Massey and wouldn't give a dime for an IH/Case. Its all just an opinion of one person.

There are no questions to ask, just say NO! UNLESS you know the previous owner and have all the repair bills and are willing to take a huge chance on it, especially the 24 speed trany. Not all that have the 24 speed have had trouble(myself included), BUT there have been some serious probs. Search here, read it all, and Run Away!
