Anyone got any ideas on warming up a MF 65 diesel. It's cold in Alabama. Trouble lights on each side of the tractor? It won't crank when it's this cold.
Thanks or the help.

Cliff,
How cold is considered "cold" in Alabama. Here in Wisconsin, I haven't seen temp's above zero in over a week. I use a 1500 watt tank heater. It will start a diesel tractor in 25-30 degree below zero weather. You could probably get by with an expensive block heater of lower wattage.

For about $ 35.00 add a 110 volt block heater! Will help crank in cold weather and will save battery also. Depending on engine should be very easy to install!

Concur with the 5W-30 weight oil. My 1040 starts OK (although a little slow) into the upper teens if I leave the glow plugs on for 30 seconds. Any colder and I plug the block heater in for an hour or so. My diesel is treated before delivery but I have heard of people mixing it 50/50 with kerosene for winter use.

Basics for that Perkins 203 engine:

Change engine oil to 5wt, or 5-30wt. Mix diesel fuel 50/50 to winterize, (50% Diesel, 50% kerosene). Install a block heater and plug in a couple hours before using...
