How do you clean an extremely dirty/clogged oil bath air cleaner on a 35 MF Perkins diesel?

The screen in the bottom of the canister appears to be tack welded.

Do these disassemble in any way other than the bottom coming off for a normal cleaning?

For those of you who will appreciate it:

Last week I was able to buy the 35 MF my dad bought new in 1964. He lost his farm in the early '80's and it sold at auction (feeder steer guys had it rough back then). Since I had 2 kids, a wife messing around on me and was pretty much broke myself I could not afford it then (things have improved a lot since then-I am now blessed more than I am ever deserve.). This was the only tractor other than a cultivating tractor on a 160-acre cattle/tobacco/corn farm. I have spent many an hour on this little tractor.

I am like a little boy on Christmas morning even if it is in pretty rough shape.

Thanks, Greg

On stubborn oil bath cleaners that won't come apart.. I've done what jack did.. just wash the whole darn thing in solvent.. dribble some oil in the mesh, reinstall, and refill the cup.

the pan in the oil bath cleaner on my 1957 to-35 comes out and you can clean it easily.

guess they improved things as time went on, but made it harder to clean.

Real soul food, isn't it!

As for the air cleaner, I could never get mine apart, so tossed them into a 5 gal can of diesel or varsol for a few days. That loosens the crud, and with sloshing around and some help from an air hose, they come out pretty clean.

Thanks Jack.

That is what I will do.
