MF-135 Trans-Hydraulic Oil

I bought a MF-135 over the weekend from a neighbor. I'm repairing/reconditioning it for resale.

Among other things I plan to clean the sump and change the trans/hydraulic oil.

I have had MF-35s in the past but believe that the 135 uses different trans-hydraulic oil. Can someone provide the correct oil name and number for the 135?

Thanks in advance.

Dean

The current proper oil is MF Perma-tran III. It supercedes MF 1129 and works better than other brands of universal tractor fluid in my 135. I have used a couple others but the MF does make the system work better. Dave

Thanks, 135.

I'll price the PermaTran at my dealer. Does it hold 8 gallons like my 35s do?

The lift on this tractor seems to be great. I raised the 6' rotary cutter when I picked it up Friday evening and it is still most of the way up Sunday evening.

I'll still change the oil and clean the screen and sump.

I think it holds the same. The dealer will know. Don't add all of it and check level before dumping total amount of oil in. If the 3 pt. stays up is a good sign that it's in very good shape without a lot of use. If it does creep does not mean there is anything wrong. Most MF 3 pts. creep. You don't have to worry until it creeps fairly fast. It is best to lower implements though to save on wear and for safety. Sounds like a good tractor but then again most 135's get very high ratings. Make sure to wire the screw back on for the strainer and don't drop anything when removing it. It could let dirt fall into the bottom. Dave

If you had the operator's manual, you would know it calls for a special MF-1129 or MF-1129A oil. Many unversal hydraulic/transmission oils claim to meet that specification.

You need to clean the hydraulic filter too.

Thanks, Gerald.

I plan to clean the screen when I have the side covers off to clean the sump.

I will not invest in an operators manual for this one since I bought it only for resale.

But without the owner's manual you can't tune it correctly and when selling the owner's manual should enhance the sale.

Be sure to get the matching edition, there were two different gas engines use and the operator's manual only covers one of them.

Thanks again, Gerald.

The previous owner has told me that he has the operators manual but could not find it when I picked up the tractor. He said he would call me when he finds it, and I'll give him a couple of weeks to see what happens.

I'm well aware of the use of both Continental 4 cylinder and Perkins 3 cylinder gasoline engines.

Having been a mechanic for over 40 years I can properly tune and adjust it once I have the specs.

Though mostly a Ford guy, I will have it right before attempting to sell it. My local dealer will provide me with any specifications that I cannot get here. Just thought I'd try to see what I could get done on Sunday while the local dealer is closed.
