when driving forwards up a hill with the multi-power in high range you should be able to push the cluth down and the tractor will not roll backwards if the multipower is working properly

Only push the clutch half way down when trying this or it will roll back anyway as the hill hold feature and entire trans. will free wheel. MP is a great option to have and is worth fixing. Once fixed it should keep working for a long time. Dave

You can get by without it depending on how it works. We had a 1085 and there was no engine breaking in low,if you currently have no engine breaking,it causes a safety issue. For instance if you had a load of anytype on back travelling downhill,I sure wouldn't prefer to be in the seat.If it is stuck in low and will not free run downhill,it is just a matter of preference or need to travell abit faster, makes enough difference that you would use if it worked. If it is stuck in high, don't loose too much sleep over it unless you need the lower gear.Hope this is abit of help.pd.
