I have a MF 65 that after jacking up the rear and trying to adjust the brakes correctly. The rear will lock so I can no longer turn the wheel by hand but when I hook a chain up to my truck the wheels turn without touching the gas pedal, no resistance. Is this a sign of oil on the pads? Any ideas? I would rather not pull the axles to find out something simple could have been done with out pulling the axles.

Thanks.

The force that is required to stop a tire turning by hand is considerably less than the torque a truck can exert at idle. Remember the axle turns 7 times for every revolution of the tire so the brakes have a very large effect on the tire. There are also two discs with 360 degree of contact on both sides.

Adjust the brakes by driving the thing. Get yourself a 5/8 inch spark plug socket and ratchet and go for a spin. Just be sure to get it up to temperature first by dragging on the brakes some. If they start dragging on their own, loosen them off a little.

Fear not the axle pull, its tedious, but not difficult.
