1980m MF285 4 speed with hi/low stuck in 3rd gear,,, owner was trying to pull down a old pole barn and going from forward to reverse back and fourth,,, I feel he pulled up on the shifter and got it out of the sifter rail gate (just a guess). I have read how to un-stick stuck in 1st gear,,, have not removed the fill plug for a look yet,,, does the shifter come out if I remove the retainer pins that go in the side of the top cover or do I need to remove the top cover to git at the shift rails, just rying to build a battle plan,,, thanks

"Bout all I can tell ya is to get a BIG screwdriver and go through the fill hole and pop it back...gently. I"ve heard that if ya jack up one wheel and rock it some it may help, notice i said may. Never been inside a 285 transmission so can"t help with the shifting rails. He may need to build up the bottom of the gear shift and stop pulling up when shifting. BTW, Thanks for the help a few months ago on that Cherokee fuel prob, turned out to need a ECM.

Its was so quick and simple,,, I did'in charge him nuttin,,, even gave a free lesson on how to unlock it....

Course it has nuttin to do with the fact his pond izz loaded wif lunkers and i have the code to the lectric gate he he

Some of the people that run our 135 (without naming names) lock up the gears once in a while and I just take the plug out of the top of the trans. and take a prise bar or a big screwdriver and move the gear into neutral. If you drag the gearshift sort of sideways or at an angle when going from a forward gear to reverse it will sometimes lock up the gears.
