Does anyone know what causes so many of the old massey Tachometer/Speedometer units to stop working? The one on my '64 MF-50 Just stopped working 2 years ago. I was wondering if it could be the drive cable is broken or if its just old age or something mechanical inside the gauge. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The Barco replacement tractometer on my MF35 often won't start up when the engine starts, then cuts in randomly when I'm not looking. From then on it works fine until the next time it doesn't start up. I have a little over 350 hours on it to date.

The gauge it replaced had had the centre smashed out of it at 4600 hrs. Maybe the owner tried tapping it with a two by four.

I took mine apart after figuring out that it could not be fixed by a damb good speedo shop here in Dallas. Dirt and lack of lube on assembly were the likely culprets on that one. I located another unit at a salvage yard which still had the needle in place but seemed to be stuck. After application of WD-40 down the internal socket where the cable goes and a little around the collar bearing I just started working it with a pair of pliers until the lube got down to where it needed to be. So far I've got 50 hours on that tach and it is working just fine. The light is burned out but I don't work at night much anyway.
