How involved is lining dry brakes on a Massey 180? I have a 1967 model with no brakes and I'm thinking about lining the brakes myself. The I&T manual explains the process, but it looks pretty involved. Is this repair complicated, easy, or should I have a professional hadle this job? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi,
If you have a basic workshop and some safe means of lifting each axle housing then the job is straight forward.
If you are thinking to re-line the discs unless you have the proper equipment to open the rivets that part of it might be left to your local clutch re-line shop.
Changing seals is straight forward. Do you have any sign of the brakes 'grabbing' when applied?
If not then the job should be relatively easy.

Thanks David. I have new discs, so rivets are not an issue. You mentioned changing the seals, I'm guessing you mean the axle seals? And no, the brakes are not grabbing. I have some right brake (very little), and no left brake, with all the adjustment having been used up. The tractor has mult-power so there is no enginge brake, so it's important I get some brakes.

Thanks again. Any other suggestions/knowledge will be greatly appreciated.

Having brakes with MP definitely helps!!!
One thing to try before pulling it apart would be a full brake adjustment. Disconnect the brake rods.
Jack up each side and adjust up until the wheels lock. Tie or block the brake pedals 'up'. Adjust the brake rods until you can just fit the pins. Fit split pins. Slacken off the adjusters approximately 2 turns. If you have any brakes left you should now have them. If you have pedal pressure and no brakes then the discs are worn out or you may have failed oil seal/s.
