I am considering one of the above tractors for a second utility style tractor. I need something in the 120-160 HP PTO range to be used for a round baler, bale processor and other light field work. I am leaning towards a 2705 as I believe it was equiped with the 354 Turbo perkins and has some experience with that engine. I've heard the V8's weren't bad either. My concern is with the 24 spd powershifts..... how durable are they?? Are they quite trouble free? What are the week spots?? How about the hydraulics...what is the output? 20 gpm, 30 gpm??? Open or closed hydraulic system??

Any information/comments are greatly appreciated.

I should have mentioned that its the power steering pump with the seperate resevoir. Obviously the hydro pump draws from the rear end.

Our 2805 has been extremely trouble free. The hydraulics are rated at 17 gallons per minute. They are gear driven with seperate reservoir. The 2775 and 2805 use the same 640 cube engine. The 2805 has a turbo which boost the hp to 194. One word of warning on the PTO's. These tractors generate more horsepower than the shaft can support and could break if you really load it. This is the same with any high horsepower engine and the 1000 RPM shaft. Some will tell you that the 24 speed tranny was a problem, claim as they do, we have never had a problem with either one of ours. Aparently its critical to operate them exactly as the book tells you. Again, never had an issue. We run a 2745 as well as the 2805. Our 2805 still looks showroom fresh and its run through parades several times a year.

That is ONE good looking 2805.How many hours are on it? For your main farming tractor, you have kept it up well! Back to Johnny's question. A good 2705 would be my choice.Better economy and more manuverability than the V-8s. 115hp with open hydraulics at just under 20 gpm. I do think good 2705s with air conditioner working will be hard to find. The last one's were built in 1983

There is 2500 hours on this one. The rear tires are original. The largest piece of equipment this one has ever had on the back is a 6 bottom plow. Needless to say, it just toys with it and fuel consumption is great with no real load on the engine.
We ran a Massey 1130 for 22 years. They also run the 354 Perkins engine. The main problems we had with it was the turbo, charge pump and the radial pump were all kinda poor designs. At least once every 3 years there was something expensive going on that tractor. A 2705 is a quieter tractor, but still has some of the inherent issues like the 1100 series. There was a service update on the air conditioners that brought a drain out near the step to enter the cab. Make sure that was done. You can see it on the photo I have next to the battery box leading up under the rear of the hood.

I've only had limited experience with a 2805. But it's real similar to the 2775, I think.

The power shift can be a problem. Before you shift gears in the main transmission you have to be sure you come to a complete stop - No exceptions. If you don't it can easily get stuck in gear, and you're pretty much screwed.

To me, this would seem awfully big for a "utility" tractor. Certainly way to much HP for a baler.

But all in all I don't think the one I drove was a bad tractor.

the powershift can be expensive to have repaired but is not that hard to do if you are mechanical the other thing to watch is stay away from the 2745 with the old DP 15 rotary fuel pump they can be bad news on the engine.
