I posted about a month ago concerning my father's 175 Diesel tractor. We were having problems with the hydraulic fluid foaming and causing a host of related problems. This weekend we took off the top cover and discovered what was wrong. There is a return pipe about 2" long that connects the inlet of the aux. hydraulic pump to a manifold on the pto lever cover. This small pipe has o-rings on each end that seal it to the pump and the manifold. This pipe had slid completely over into the pump exposing the o-ring on the manifold allowing the aux.pump to suck air. We repositioned the pipe and then placed a hose clamp on the pipe to capture it between the pump and manifold. All is now working well. This appears to me to be a bad design. I do not understand what this pipe is for because the pump also has a sump pick-up with screen. The return oil could just be returned and dumped into the housing. Why have the return oil from the aux. valves return to the inlet of the pump? What am I missing here? Anyway all is now working well and hopefully we will have no further problems. I just wanted to state what we discovered and maybe help someone else if they ever encounter aux. pump problems.

Yes they were designed that way back then. A dealer advised me to remove that short pipe and plug the hole going into the pump. That way if you use remotes, less chances of contamination entering the pump.
