Hi All...

So she"s here! Our MF 135 was delivered this morning.

I"m looking to order manuals / etc. and would like to determine the year.

I"ve looked at Serial Numbers online. I"m assuming based on the following that we have a 1964.(anyone want to confirm this?)

There is a plate on the drivers right that is kind of in behind the air filter. It reads SDW641022180.

My foray online shows;

1964 to be 641000001
1966 to be 641014871

I assume the SDW refers to the Diesel Engine. I"m uncertain if the 22180 is the tractor number of that year or what...and if so can I differentiate between the 64 and the 66.

Anyway just curious...It looks like the early manuals will suffice.

Anyone have any suggestions. I"ve found the reproduced Owners Manuals online and someone earliar recommended checking out Big Dean"s site. I"ll likely order his CD and the Owners Manual. But welcome thoughts and other suggestions.

Thanks all.

We"re happy to have joined the ranks of the Massey Fergusen following!

We just purchased an older MF tractor. The previous owner thinks it is a 70's model...I don't even know where to begin to look to find a serial number or the year it was manufactured, can you help me?

The Masseys seem to have cast number"s all over them. However the "main" serial number on the MF 135 anyway is on a tin plate that is located on the drivers right side of the tractor. It"s beneath were the battery is mounted and sort of behind (or towards the front of the tractor) from the Steering Column. I think thats a decent description anyway. Good luck.

I don't know if it is an MF 135, but at least you have given me a place to start looking when I get home! Thanks so much!

I had checked these serial numbers and thats partly where my questions came from.

I don"t have a match. But expect that some serial numbers may have standard beginning numerals and the ending numerals would represent the production number of the tractor.(thats my thinking anyway...I"m pretty sure Ford did this)

Never-the-less the added confusion is because in the first few years of production MF used the year 1964 (641000001) 1965 (65101909) in 1966 they went back to (641014871)

I"m wondering if they didn"t want to use 66 because of the association with Satan. Sounds crazy but I recall hearing Farmall would skip 13"s

So with that in mind I"m kinda thinking that the last five digits represent the production number and that 1966 would include tractor 14871 +

In that regards I might assume that I have tractor 22180. Which was produced in 1966.

Serial # SDW 641022180

Just my thoughts. Agree / Disagree / other thoughts?!

Thanks...

Look in the serial numbers on here and in the archives. It will explain what the letters mean. What happened to 65? The numbers are the serial number. If it's a diesel, it's the best of the best. You can get manuals from a dealer. Get only MF manuals and Big Deans CD would be an excellent idea. Dave
