Bought a MF 235 with loader yesterday at an auction. Everything seems about normal for this age tractor but the bucket slowly rotates to the down position. It will quickly go back if you pull the control but rotates again. Its still on my trailer, so I have checked nothing yet. No major leaks that I saw, actually I did not see any leaks. The controls look good and work smooth. Any suggestions as to where to start?

Hi

You may reverse the hoses at the bucket control valve if the problem is reversed it is probably the valve if not it is probably defective cylinder.

It's been some time since I studied hydraulics but I don't think there are any seals or O rings in the main body of the control valve only outer seals. Doesn't the control valve have to leaking in order for a double acting cylinder to drop very far because of the difference in volume on either side of the piston. Not to say the piston seals are not bad just not sure it would cure it completly. I'm sure alot of you know more about it than I do, just trying to help.

Almost guaranteed it's the internal cylinder seals. I have an Allied loader on my 135 that I've had to put new seals in a couple times and even did my skid steer that did the same thing. Replace both cylinder seals as it only takes one side to bypass for both to leak. Also while the cylinders are apart replace all the other seals as well. A hydraulic shop could do it or you could do it yourself. You need to put a little grease or vaseline on the seals when reassembling the cylinders. If it uses O-rings with back up rings, all the seals should cost less than $20. Probably way cheaper. If it has better seals they'll cost more but will still be a rather cheap repair. If you have a shop or dealer do it, I wouldn't expect it to take more than an hour or so. Dave

Hi, I would uncouple, isolate (probably has snap
couplers)the bucket cyls. If it still settles
then it is one or other or both cyl seal kits
that need replacing. Otherwise, yes, the valve.
Past experience puts it at the side of the seal
kits. Chuck

Spring/ O-rings in valve body for bucket curl control, probably bypassing
