Hello, I am trying to re-ring the G176 gas engine in my MF65. The problem that I am running into is that the bore has already been bored out to .100" over. Does anyone have any ideas on how to obtain a set of piston rings that are that much bigger than standard bore? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Dear Mike,

According to my M and W book from 1968 the MF 65 came from the factory with a 3 and 37/64 piston. Rounded off that is 3.58

M and W made a kit with a 3 and 11/16 bore that would convert over to 44/64 inch. That is 7/64 over bore or around .109 over bore. I am thinking you have a set of M and W sleeves and piston that maybe could be .109 over. One of the other guys said this also. I thought I would share with you the numbers from the M and W book. If you could find rings for the M and W kit then they might fit.??? Barrett Jones who drives a MF 65 with the G176 engine to feed cattle.

Mike,

Just had another thought. M&W used to supply engine overhaul kits. They were an aftermarket parts supplier. They always advertized, "More Power Than When New" on their decals that were supplied with a kit. I guess the extra power had to come from a larger bore on their sleeves ? Maybe that is what you are dealing with.

There may have been other non-OEM kit suppliers that may or may not still be in business. I used a Sealed Power kit on my 65 about eight years ago. They may be a place to start your ring search if that is the route you want to take.

Are you sure it has been bored out ? I never heard of boring a wet sleeved engine before. Seems like it would make the sleeve weak. Not saying it can't be done, but just not sure I would want to try.

I miked the piston skirt and it is .100 over the stock bore. I wish it wasn't .100 over, because it looks like I will have to resleeve them.
