I posted a few weeks ago about my lift arms not lowering on my tractor. when ever i cranked the tractor the arms would raise. well a friend of mine solved that problem byt showing me how to work the control arm correctly. today i put a hay spear on the back of it and now it will not raise the lift. i messed with the position control lever and could not get it to move. when i took the spear off, the arms raised. any idea what the problem could be, other than me not knowing how to operate the levers?

Hey Mickey, when I first got my 1085 it worked fine until the following spring. It would pick up a boom pole but not a scrape blade. My pto clutches had come apart and stopped up the filter screen,if you drain your fluid in a couple of clean buckets you could possibly that problem.

Thanks pat. as soon as my manual gets here me and a friend are going to take the platform off and have a look. he thinks the same thing that you are thinking, but he added that the control valve or pressure releif valve could also be having problems. this is my first massey.

it sounds like the valve in the head is stickin or could be a blocked filter unit either one would cause the oil pressure not to get to the piston or return which could also have been your other problem

Are the control levers adjusted correctly or loose? My linkage has come loose before and gave me problems.

the draft lever is somewhat loose. it will travel all the way back with out any effort. i checked the linkage under the cover and found that someone had replaced the screw and nut in the top part of the linkage. when i rev up the rpms, the lift would pick up the hay spear along with my wife, but once i got under the hay bale (1200lbs)it would not budge. i have ordered the operators manual off of ebay and have yet to receive it.
