I just got my first tractor and am totally unprepared...It is a MF-50 gas powered. Can someone Please tell me how to get an owners manual so I can change find out what fluids this thing has and the recommended change out times... I did order and receive the Shop Manual but it does not have the info I am looking for... Any help would be appreciated! I bought it for light work around the property, box blading the drive, dragging wood etc... and have never used a tractor before so any advice is helpful

Thanks,

All your insights have proved useful, I would have never thought of checking the boots... they are slightly worn but serviceable.

I have a lead on the owners manual. Now the only thing left is to go through the tractor and start using it... As for it biting I found that out already.... tried to drag a neighbors car out of a ditch and found that it is light in the front end... (After the front wheels were three feet in the air) decided to be real careful after my heartbeat steadied down!

think there is a site on this forum to order a owners manual.

However someone on the forum that has a MF-50 would be glad to email a list of proper lubes.

As you do not know what type oil is in motor I would (not) recommend placing synthetic oil in motor. Use good quality oil and new filter, be sure spring is in canister filter.

Drain and change oil in transmission/hydraulic system, unless you can determine when it was changed. Be sure to use correct oil, will cost you: 8 gals needed about $40 per 2 1/2 gal container. But this is less expensive than a rebuild. Check shifter boots, replace if cracked, they can let moisture into transmission.

check oil in steering box
grease front wheel bearings
place a inline fuel filter on gas line

place a can of seafoam in gas tank when you fill gas tank, this will clean fuel system.

give it a good tuneup

change coolant
check fan belt, do not get it too tight as it can wear generator bearings if too tight.

clean air filter oil or replace paper filter depending on which system you have.

others will kick in on other things I have missed, but this will give you a good start and little tractor should be ready to go.

Fix lights if not working, you will need tractor some time after dark and you will be glad you have lights and add a flasher light if you are going to be on road.

Good luck and be careful, Remember: these little tractors are fun to use, buy they can bite you in a second.
