The MF-65 I bought a couple of months ago just had the engine completely overhauled a few months beofre I bought it, but it still smokes a lot when starting. And even after it has warmed up, it still has a hazy smoke exhaust all the time. The smell of the exhaust is obviously from unburnt fuel. In fact, it is so rich it makes your eyes burn and the smell stays in your clothes!

From what I have read in the archives of this forum, it sounds like my injectors are most likely the root cause of this problem. If any of you had similar experience I'd be very interested to hear your feedback.

I'm planning on pulling the fuel tank off for a good cleaning in the next week or so and figure that would be a good time to pull the injectors while I'm at it. I'm using fuel conditioner now, but is there any way of cleaning the injectors that would help this problem, or should I just go ahead and take them to the shop and have them serviced/rebuilt?

Thanks Guys,
Dan

Hi,

I think it would be a good idea to confirm that the fuel pump timing is correct. If that is out it will/could cause smoking. Also, have you checked that your valves clearances are right. Because the engine was rebuilt, it does not mean that all the settings are right. It will be a lot cheaper to check the fuel pump timing and valve clearances first, before pulling the injectors.
