A few pages back, someone was asking when the MF TRIPLE TRIANGLE emblem first appeared. According to an article in Tractor&Machinery Mag (out of England) about the 50th anniversary of Massey Ferguson, it first appeared November 19th, 1957.

What else was going on about that time? Nov 3rd, 1957, the Soviet Union launched Sputnik 2. Nov 8th, MGM released the film Jailhouse Rock w/ Elvis. Nov 13th, Gordon Gould invented the lazer. December 9th Donny Osmond was born. Dec. 18th, The film The Bridge on the River Kwai was released. Dec.20th, the first flight of the Boing 707.

Sputnik 1 was launched Oct. 4 1957. The same day the Avro Arrow was officially unveiled. Sputnik took the headlines away from easily the most advanced jet interceptor in the world. Avro also had built the first jet airliner in North America but it was unveiled in 1948. Thanks to the Canadian Gov't. both projects were scrapped. Pierre Burton called the Gov't. ordered scrapping of the Arrows "The biggest act of official vandalism in Canadian history"! That plane was 30 years ahead of it's time. Laid off employees went to NASA and were instrumental in putting a man on the moon. It has been said that without them, it would have taken longer to put a man on the moon. Too bad we can't change history and have Arrows flying today.
