I have a 1976 135MF and have been having quite a bit of trouble with the power steering. The steering cylinder mounted on the front of the steering box develops a leak after 20 to 30 hours of running. I used an aftermarket rack, and the back of it is roughly machined. I was wondering if the rack was wearing away the guide and causing the cylinder rod to be forced upward breaking the seal in the top of the "adapter assembly". The last time i rebuilt it i shimmed the guide so there was very little space between it and the rack.
The only other thing i could think of that could cause this to happen would be the rod, which i had someone machine for me did not have a smooth enough finish on it and is wearing the seal prematurely.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

The rod has to be smooth, a rough rod will work like a sander on the seal lip. Hope this helps you. Don Snyder
