Micah:

Like the other poster said, all of them will bleed down eventually. If it will hold a heavy load for a minute or so, it is in pretty good shape.

I have a new 2007 MF 533 (2007 version of the 35) with less than 50 hours, and it will bleed down with the 6' cutter attached within a week or so.

I presume whay you mean by "bleed off" is that your lift arms settle down when you shut the engine off or you cannot maintain the lift arms up with a load on the three point hitch. If that"s the case, I would first suspect that the lift cylinder is leaking. this could be caused by a worn piston seal or worn cylinder bore or ir could be a cracked cylinder bore. Open up the access plate on the side of the hydraulic reaervior and with the motor running and the hydraulic pump driven, move the lift lever to full up and with a flashlight look up under the lift cover.(DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, STICK YOUR HANDS IN THE HYDRAULIC RESERVIOR WITH TEH ENGINE RUNNING!) Any more than a few drops of fluid indicates a leaking cylinder.

The other posibility is that the relief valve could be partially open due to debris caught in it or the control valve may be worn and leaking. You have to look in your shop manual to find out where these are located as i am not familiar with the TO-35 specifics.

Hope this helps.

The problem that i have is when I push in the clutch with a bush hog on the lift drops slowly but this is a real prob if I am over a rock or stump. I pulled the side cover and looked and have found fluid draining from the cyl. area so I guess I have to pull the hyd lift cover. The next question is the manual says to remove the seat and the transfer plate, and stand pipe then remove the lift cover but this is pretty unclear do I reach thru the side cover to access the transfer plate?

The transfer plate is located on the top of the lift cover at the front right corner, it has 2 bolts that hold it to the cover, you will find the standpipe under it, this standpipe has an o ring at each end, bottom of this stand pipe goes in the port in the pump,o ring could be blown on one end, when putting standpipe back into pump, can be tricky, if you put it in the transfer plate first then hold transfer plate level with flat area on lift cover. You can try putting stand pipe in without transfer plate attached, it goes straight down in and will take a little push to go in port on pump and will be above the top of lift cover far enough to go in transfer plate. To check if you have it in the pump port put control lever to lift position disable engine so that it cant srart, put transmission in netural and crank over oil will come out standpipe, if it is in pump port. There is a small o ring in transfer plate be careful not to loose it. Hope this helps you and don't confuse you.

Thanks for all the help, info on the transfer plate helped. I removed the transfer plate and pipe o-rings intact but look pretty old removed piston no cracks noticed some slight scoring on piston and rings cyl bore does not looks bad I guess new cyl rings and the o-rings and test
By the way the lift leaks in seconds not hours or days although I am surprised to hear that new tractors leak off at all why aren't check valves used?

Hi again,
The standard MF answer to your question is why do you want the arms to stay up when the engine is stopped? When the tractor is stopped and unattended the implement should be lowered to the ground as a safety consideration. As to why aren't check valves fitted? Probably we should start off with extra cost and then move onto benefit. Even check valves will leak ultimately.
The only way to be sure of holding the 3-pt up is to have a mechanical device of some sort either integral or check chains etc.
The lift cylinder is the most likely source of your leak.
Cheers

Hi,
Have you checked the oil level in the transmission?
