Hi, Ive a MF 185 (just like a 165 but with a slightly bigger engine). I know i filled the oil just to the top of the full mark on the dipstick, but now there seems to be quite a lot more oil! Where could this have come from? I have a JD 2010 in which the diesel can leak from the injector pump into the crankcase. Can the CAV pump on the 185 do this as well.

Help! Jim.

To answer your question; Yes, the Cav pump will leak past the front seal into the gear cover and into the crankcase. If your tractor has a diaphram lift pump, check it also.
I bought a rebuilt pump and 4 nozzels to the tune of $660 for a 285 Massey, not long ago. Had to pull the pump and replace a brand new seal that was cut on installation. I still have it laying here on my desk as a reminder right now. D--n supplier {can we use names here?} wanted to charge me an additional $50 PLUS the seal to fix it, because they say new type fuels dry seals out. BS! I had the pump less than a year, and it nearly screwed up a fresh OH. To make a long story short, I took a Massey power steering seal, #833935M {i think} for less than 5 bucks and fixed it myself.

Had this problem on a 185 pump was overfuelling and diluting the oil till there was low pressure .Recalibration of pump solved all

I agree with the first gentleman. Before I go and start pulling injector pumps, I'd first check that low pressure pump on the side of the block (I'm sure a 185 has one). They are cheap and easy to get to and can cause the same problem that you are describing. They get a hole worn in the diaphram and it sends the fuel under low pressure right through the hole in the side of the block and straight into your oil pan.
