hi all,

my shop class just recieved its project tractor. it's a massey ferguson 65(at least thats what it says on the side of the hood ) it has a continental 4 cylinder in it. the casting number on the block is G176A600M above this is L - 17 - 0 and below this is the letter C with an L through it like the drafters symbol for centre line.motor # G 176 22552 (space in between is like it is in tag)tappet clearance on the intake is .016 exhaust .018 spec no.10.

transmission casting #: 182840M2 (starter side) L - 16 - 1 (generator side)
Delco Remy 12v starter #: model #11076 serial #1A26
Delco Remy generator 12v #: model #120362 Serial # 1A26 (the 2 could be a 3)
casting number on case behind tranny: 183253M5
it has champion D21 spark plugs in it. what is the proper gap for this plug and are they hard to get? also do we need a sleeve puller to remove the sleeves? (we've been told it is a wet sleeve) also what year was this tractor manufactured? any help will be greatly appreciated.

thanks
jordan

If ya happen to look real close, you will see that is not all that is missing.... The wheel stops on the PAVT, the emblems, and some stuff you cannot see is also missing. It is complete and usable, but there is still much to do. Always is!

Okay, here goes. Your numbers suggest that you have a 1961 MF65 with a Continental G176 low altitude model. You will find nearly all the parts you need on this site. The engine kit is top notch and you only need to get your crank checked prior to ordering. The comprehensive engine kit is $869, but has everything from points, to a carb kit. The hard parts are first rate. The carb kit is a little lacking...

Your compression will move from 7:1 to 9.1:1 due to the LP/HA universal pistons that will be delivered with the kit. This will cause no problems. The book available on this site is a photocopied MF manual. The IT manual is available but leaves some to be desired. Also the rocker shaft installation in the IT manual is backward. I did not reuse my generator so I cannot help you there. Brakes, PTO, hydraulics, and steering are straightforward. The engine is indeed a wet sleeve and I had mine installed at the machine shop. My head was also reworked at the machine shop. Be sure to coat all gaskets with a thin sheen of grey sealant prior to assembly. Also spray your head gasket with copper coat before installation. All the engine gaskets will leak if assembled dry. It may have to do with the quality of the gaskets, or possibly MF's machining tolerances, not sure. You will find the 65 parts a little more expensive than the 50 and the Continental a little more than the Perkins, but the parts are available.

Here is mine,

Aaron

The MF-65 was manufactured from 1957 until 1965. To get the specific year you need the serial number. The tractor serial number is on a data plate on the tractor dash.

Full Parts books are still available from MF.

Also the G176 engine is a Contential engine. Gerry Moons has the larges supply of NOS spar parts. He is also very knowledgible and helpful. The link below is his contact information and website.

Tell him one of the FENA guy sent you.

Engine type is G176. Plug gaps are 0.025-0.027 in. Champion D21"s are easy to get. You"ll need a suitable puller for the sleeves.
I think the last year was 1959. I heard same engine used on Clark fork lifts. You can still buy the abbreviated Shop Manual by I&T (No. MF-19) Good luck.
