I have a M-F 50 industrial tractor (similar to Ag model MF-165)that has the planetary final drive at the end of each axle. In looking at the design, I've seen that the stub holding the axle flange is only about 6 - 8" long. I'm concerned about the centerline of the wheels and whether or not premature failure would result from running with the wheels spaced further outward.

The origninal wheels looked to place the centerline of the tire about near the length of of the axle stub and within the space between the positions of of the roller bearings.

I installed a backhoe on the tractor from a CASE tractor which required that I space each rear tire outward about 6 inches from the original position in order to get the swing cylinders between the fenders. Will the planetary assemblies tolerate this over-hung loading from the wheels being further spaced out than original?

I've seen some MF-165 - 175 tractors with spin-out wheels so I'm wondering how critical it is to have the tire centers near the center of the axle stub of the planetaries.

Your opinions, please.

KRM
