Should I buy an adapter to adapt to a spin on oil filter or just stick with the cartridge type?
I have a 4cyl. gas eng..

If so where is a good place to buy and about how much do they cost?

I have heard that if the spring and washer are missing that it renders the cartridge type oil filter ineffective. Mine does not have the spring and I was wondering if this is true.

It has also ben rumored that the newer oil formulations do not carry the additives to protect older engines. Look into the ZDDP debate and decide for yourself. I personally run diesel spec oil but I really do not put enough hours on anything to be able to tell the difference.

Just me,

Aaron

I'm not sure but the spring and washer issue applies to the Perkins engines. Not sure about the Continentals. Dave

I would stick with what you have, it has worked for close to 50 years and tractor is still running good.
Buy a good filter, Wix, NAPA Gold or MF and be sure to get o rings gaskets and replace them.

Watch filter for a bit after changing oil as I had a gasket leak one time and it pump about 2 qts of oil out before I noticed it.

Use good quality oil, I would not recommend a synthetic oil as some have had problems with their engines after placing synthetic oil in older engines, why take a chance.

I always use dino Valvoline 10W40 in my 1957 TO-35 and she runs like a top.
